Shall We Dance? Alzheimer Benefit 2012

Inline Image

Eastern Illinois University's Academy of Lifetime Learning and Gowin Parc are hosting the Shall We Dance? Alzheimer Benefit Dance. The fundraiser will take place on Saturday, September 22nd to promote awareness about the disease, with all proceeds donated to the Greater Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. The night will be full of festivities, including a silent auction, quilt raffle, food, dancing and music provided by a DJ.

The benefit relies heavily on local sponsors and donations from community members to enhance the experience of the event. Excellent donations have been received so far for the silent auction, including an acoustic guitar provided by Gibson, fine jewelry courtesy of Towne Square Jewelers, themed gift baskets, quilts and other items. Auction items and donations are still being accepted for the event.

The event will be held in the University Ballroom in the Martin Luther King, Jr. University Union at EIU, beginning at 7 p.m. on September 22nd. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Greater Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. The Academy and Gowin Parc hope the event will promote awareness about Alzheimer's disease.

For more information, please contact Janna Overstreet, Project Coordinator for EIU's School of Continuing Education at 581-5114 or by email at academy@eiu.edu. Updates and more information about the event can be found at the event's webpage and the Academy's Facebook page.

OASIS meeting for nontraditional students September 12

Inline Image

OASIS is an organization that seeks to assist and offer resources helpful for nontraditional students. A nontraditional student can be many things, including adult, commuter, and transfer students that attend EIU. This group helps form connections between students while they are at the university.

We offer meetings several times a semester in order to provide opportunities to meet and network with other students. Although you have a unique background and story, other students like you are looking to branch out and meet new people during their time at EIU.

Our first meeting will be held on September 12 in the Adult Commuter Student Lounge outside the Scharer Room on the third floor, west wing in EIU's Union from 11-12 p.m. Sandwiches and refreshments will be offered, so please come join us and meet some new students while you're at it.

We’re on Facebook, so you can reach us there and like our page to get up-to-date information about events that we host throughout the school year. We also have a student guide to check out, which provides some basic information about OASIS and EIU. If you have any questions, please contact Patrick Singer at 217-581-5114 or at oasis@eiu.edu
